No matter how many internet sites or cellphone applications provide a person with novel stories but a book stays a Book! We all read books and some of us have this favorite hobby of reading and collecting our favorite story books. But how many of us really know which of our read books ranks as the top ten? So we have come up with an amazing list of Top Ten read books of the world. Now look up to the list and know which position does your favorite book hold?
10. ‘Think and Grow rich’ by Napoleon Hill
On number 9 is a motivational book by Napoleon Hill, ‘Think and Grow rich’ about which the noble Charles Stanley writes ‘I began to apply the principles of ‘Think and Grow rich’ to my endeavors as a pastor, and I discovered they worked!’ Although the book was published in 1937 it kept on selling its copies even after 70 years and at the time of the death of Napoleon in 1970 it had sold its 20 million copies. Based on and inspired by the recommendation of a Scottish-American businessman Andrew Carnegie, the book was based on how to make money and succeed in every field of life. Till now it had sold about 30 million of its copies. ‘Think and grow rich’ holds a position in John C. Maxwell’s ‘A lifetime must read Books’ list.
9. ‘Gone with the Wind’ by Margaret Mitchell
The novel ‘Gone with the wind’ written by Margaret Mitchell was first published in 1936. The number eighth on the list is a romantic novel depicting some historic variety. The book was written by Margaret during her healing time after an accident, a time that was hard to pass. Harold Latham was an editor who wanted a good fiction story to be published and approved Margaret’s ‘Gone with the Wind’ a story of Scarlett and Rhett. After the approval she wrote the final chapters several times to make it her best, and the book was her only writing of her lifetime. The book was also adopted by an American movie in the year 1939 and had sold 33 million copies till now.
8. ‘Twilight- the Saga’ by Stephenie Meyer
A young vampire-romantic novel by Stephanie Meyer stands as the seventh most read books of all times. It was first published in 2005 and broke records; it made itself as number 5 on New York Times Bestseller in the same month of its release, was the biggest selling book in 2008 and the second biggest in 2009. Telling a story about a seventeen year old Isabella Swan who falls in love with a vampire, the book was translated into 37 different languages and was full of thrill and action too. The novel was highly popular among the youngsters and later the movies of Twilight- Saga had been some amazing movies. Total 43 million copies of the book are sold till now and is still making mark.
7. ‘The Da Vinci Code’ by Dan Brown
With selling out almost 57 million copies of ‘The Da Vinci Code’ it stands as the number sixth most read books. Dan Brown wrote a fictional, mysteriously investigating novel and published in 2003. The story revolves around a murder in Paris, Louvre Museum which is investigated by Robert Langdon who later gives a possibility that Jesus Christ may have been married to Mary Magdalene and had a son too. The book’s name is taken from Da Vinci’s painting that gives a clue to the investigation.
6. ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho
A well-known Brazilian author Paulo Coelho published his book in 1988 and eventually became Brazilian’s Best-seller. The book told a story about a young Andalusia shepherd who was named Santiago, was having a journey to Egypt and a dream about finding a treasure that would change his life forever. The novel was actually written in Portuguese and after its amazing response it was translated into 67 languages later, selling 65 million copies worldwide and was named as the most translated book by a living author in Guiness Book.
5. ‘Lord of the Rings’ by J. R. R. Tolkien
Actually the sequel of ‘The Hobbit’ of J. R. R. Tolkien, ‘Lord of the Rings’ holds the fourth position on the list. The novel is a fantasy story about a ring that was made by an old character that has to be passed on. The book was published in 1955 and became a favorite of millions. It has been translated into many languages and has been sold its 103 million copies worldwide.
4. ‘Harry Potter’ by J. K. Rowling
The adventure of Harry Potter, the fantasies and the mysteries of the novels of ‘Harry Potter’ grabbed the attention of many people around the world. Being a children novel basically, it not only fascinated the children but adults too which led to some amazing movies that followed. J. K. Rowling has developed a non-fictional character of Harry Potter who studies in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and is battling against the evil wizard Lord Voldemort who wants to become everlasting and wants to break down everyone that comes his way, including Harry Potter. It sold out almost 400 million of its copies.
3. ‘Quotations from the Works of Mao Tse-tung’ by Mao Tse-tung
The second most read book is ‘Quotations from the Works of Mao Tse-tung’ which was written by Mao Tse-tung. It was also called as the ‘little red book’ and was published in 1964 to 1976. The book was a series of statements from the speeches and writings of Mao, a former leader of Chinese Communist Party and displayed the ideology of the party in the book. Around 820 million copies were sold out.
2. ‘The Bible’
‘The Bible’ takes the lead. It is basically a book of account of God’s actions in the world and has God’s messages. The writings were completed in over sixteen centuries and are a wonderful compilation of 66 books altogether. The copies that are sold out till now are almost 3.9 billion.

The Quran is a book that is read almost all over the world by thousands of Muslims and non Muslims. The one version of the Holy Quran is translated into numerous other languages so it would be easy to understand. Muslims regard the Quran as the main miracle of Muhammad, the proof of his prophethood. According to the Islamic tradition Muhammad(PBUH) received his first revelation in the Cave of Ḥirā during one of his isolated retreats to the mountains .The copies of the Quran that are sold out till now are almost 4.1 billion.
