Situated near the small town of Moni, about 50km to the east of Ende is a volcano, named Keli Mutu. It is well-known for its three crater lakes at the summit. The most distinctive characteristic of this lake is its changing colour. A truck ride from Moni village, which begins before dawn take tourists closer to the crater rim. Once the sun rises, the colourful lake can be appreciated. Tiwu Ata Mbupu (Lake of Old people) is the western most of the three lakes and is usually blue in colour. The two other lakes Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai (Lake of Young men and maidens) and Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched or enchanted lake) are separated by a crater wall, and are green and red respectively.
The closest airports to this place are Maumere and Ende.

The cable takes 13 passengers across at one time. It is absolutely an uncanny experience in poor visibility and clouds moving past all around. However, on a clear day it seems as if one is flying by the mountains. Once across, the observatory is equipped with a café bar where special Jamacian Blue Mountain coffee is served along with local Hruskavica pear brandy.
